Summer of Renewal Day 1 - Linens

Today I started with my linens. I have been bothered by the the disorganization and over abundance of towels and washcloths that I have accumulated over time. The picture above represents all of the towels in my house. Beach towels, bath towels, washcloths, dish towels, dish rags, and my unintentional oven mitt collection. They were scattered all throughout the house, in the bathroom cabinet, kitchen drawer and the linen cabinet in my bedroom.

I started with the towels for the bathroom and the beach. I was able to eliminate some of those and put them back in the linen cabinet in my room.

Next, I moved on to the dish towels, wash cloths, gym towels and the oven mitts. I did some serious slashing of those items. Here is what I ended up with:

The next order of business was to go through placemats, tablecloths, and linen napkins.

After going through all of that, here is what I decided to keep.

So all in all, a good first day. I have consolidated all of my linens to the one linen cabinet now so the other places in the house that they were kept in are now empty. Progress!

Tomorrow I'm going to tackle socks, shoes, and T-shirts. I know that some of that will be more difficult and more time-consuming as I try on things to make sure that I'm not keeping something that I don't feel comfortable in. I am looking forward to making room in my drawers.

It's a process, but I have two good sized garbage bags for donation! One step to a lighter load in the house.

Health, peace, and love be yours!

  1. Maybe I will get some inspiration and start organizing my house. Thanks for sharing. Great that you started right away. Maybe that's why I'm not motivated yet. I don't really see myself on summer vacation until Thursday sinceI still have to go back Tuesday and Wednesday.

  2. I hear ya! I go back to school next week for a few days to wrap up the year, but I just was dying to get started. I know that I don't want to spend the whole summer going through stuff, so I have made a daily list of what I plan to accomplish and still have time for some fun! Good luck with your plans too! Keep me posted. I would love to hear how decluttering helps you and your family.
