Going Veggie....just a few days in.
I have been eating vegetarian since Wednesday, February 1st. I know that doesn't sound like a huge accomplishment, but to me, 5 days is great. I have broken many diet change attempts in less that 5 hours, so cut me some slack.
Tonight, my friends asked if wanted to go out to dinner. I opted not to go so that I could continue working on a lesson plan assignment for class. They said they would bring me back something, so I asked them to call me when they were at the restaurant so that I could give them my order.
I thought they were going to Longhorn Steakhouse. I was thinking about getting a baked potato with steamed veggies. Once here, I would top it off with some vegetable chili that I made a couple of days ago. As it turns out, they ended up at T.G.I.Fridays. I checked their website for nutritional information, but came up with nothing. There was a blurb on the f.a.q page about nutrition information. The response was that the only nutrition information they publish is whatever they decided to put on the actual menu. “Right Size, Right Portion”, “Low Carb”, “Low Fat.” Sounds like marketing tactics to me. They just want to make people think they are getting something healthy while it’s loaded up with sodium and calories.
So I decided to get the Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad (sans the chicken), dressing on the side. I like the lettuce and all the garnishments on that salad. The best part is the sweetness of the dried cranberries and mandarin oranges in contrast with the strong, salty flavor of the crumbled blue cheese.
I guess that will be dinner tonight. At least I didn't cave under the pressure of meat...
