Camino Prep- Day 4- Fluid Running
I have been doing fluid running in the pool for about two years. I would attribute the increase in strength and stamina that I have for walking to this daily practice. There is hardly a day that goes by that I do not fluid run for at least the equivalent of 1 mile. The way I measured this is by wearing my Apple Watch and setting the workout to running. I then go into the deep end of the pool where I am not touching the ground, and just start running as if I am running on the pavement, but I am going nowhere. The jets of the pool create enough of a treadmill like effect that I stay stationary throughout the entire time. Because the Health app on my Apple Watch knows my stride length, it is able to measure the distance to give me a rough estimate of what a mile is. So here’s some interesting information: it takes me roughly about 25 to 30 minutes to run this aqua mile in the water. What I have found is when I walk on land, that time is commiserate with my aqua jogging. To walk a mile takes me about 25 to 30 minutes so that equivalency helps me determine how much exercise I truly am getting. This allows me to go the distance with resistance without pounding away on the cement. Before I started doing this aqua jogging a couple of years ago, I was having difficulty just walking around the store without holding a grocery cart. It’s hard to believe that someone who used to be a catcher in softball, hopping up from a squat and running the bases was needing a grocery cart as support to navigate Publix. But that’s where I arrived after years of a sedentary lifestyle, menopause, and weight gain. But in just the last two years doing this fluid running I have been able to see myself improve immensely. From walking around with a grocery cart to spending 12 to 15 hours at the Magic Kingdom walking freely, it truly is a miracle. So now I’m going to take it a step further and really push in all the areas of my physicality. I have a goal and a plan. I have the mental fortitude and sticktoitiveness to get it done. I’m not stopping. I’m gonna keep going.
